Ventana 244 presents: A new exhibition entitled LET'S GET PHYSICAL, featuring paintings by Jonathan Allmaier, Yevgeniya Baras, Rick Briggs, Chris Martin, Dona Nelson, Jackie Saccoccio, Russell Tyler, Maria Walker, Chuck Webster. Curated by Rick Briggs

" The body cannot be compared to the physical object, but rather to the work of art."Maurice Merleau-Ponty

Rick Briggs I was remembering that line from Olivia Newton John's 1981 pop hit Let's Get Physical – "Let me hear your body talk." And I began thinking: perhaps what we really want, as artists, is to SEE the body talk. This exhibit brings together a group of painters who use extra-physical means to make abstract paintings. This is accomplished in various ways: the physicality of the paint itself, application methods, or by altering the painting support. The physicality of these paintings suggests the body: the body in all its corporeality, the body in action, and the body as site of all perception, both conscious and unconscious. Simply put, the artists in this exhibition strive to make the visceral visible, and that takes guts.
